The trailer of upcoming comedy caper, Happy Birthday dropped a short while ago. The trailer was unveiled by master craftsman SS Rajamouli.
The trailer starts off with the establishment of the term “Surreal comedy” which means intentional creation of illogical and impractical scenes to create slapstick comedy. This sets the tone for what’s to follow.
Going by the trailer, Happy Birthday is based on gun culture. What happens when everyone is entitled to carry a gun and carrying a gun is a matter of privilege? The film explores this path.
Lavanya Tripathi, Satya, Vennela Kishore, and others are seen in the central roles. Alongside the gun culture thread, there is also the diamond robbery thread.
We are served funky and new-age comedy in the trailer and the film will tread the same path. This kind of comedy is not for everyone, but again, the makers are clear about their target audience.
The director of the film, Ritesh Rana spurred a surprise with his debut film Mathu Vadalara which fetched profits, and he appears to have come up with another seemingly dark and funky comedy caper this time around.
It remains to be seen if Happy Birthday can also strike a chord with the the target audience. The film is releasing on the 8th of July. Clap Entertainments, in association Mythri Movie Makers have produced the film.
