Look For The Exit
What is the film ‘Ye Mantram Vesave’ about?
Nikki (Vijay Deverakonda) is a game addict. For days together he stays inside the house making him a champion on the online world. What happens when Rags (Shivani) challenges him to a real game is what the film is all about?
How is Vijay Deverakonda’s performance?
Vijay Deverakonda is the only reason to watch the movie, and I have to say, he doesn’t disappoint one bit. He is terrific and grabs all the attention whenever he is onscreen. The good thing even in this lousy film is that the makers don’t try to highlight Vijay Deverakonda as a hero instead he is made to look like a character, and yet he stands out effortlessly without undermining anyone else. Ye Mantram Vesave should be a lesson to him to understand that it is not enough to just have an exciting concept or content, the director should be capable enough to bring it to life onscreen. After all, it is what is on the big screen that matters not what is on the paper.
Direction By Shridhar Marri?
Shridhar Marri debuting as director with Ye Mantram Vesave has a nice concept and theme in hand. It is very topical and relatable, especially among the urban segment. But Ye Matram Vesave suffers from the same problem that plagues many small films –the execution. It is utterly silly and laughable. It is a short film shown on silver screen. It makes all the noble intentions pointless.
Frankly, the only reason one is interested in Ye Mantram Vesave is the lead actor Vijay Devarakonda. And he is the only reason to sit until the end, that is if one has dared to watch the movie. Both the first and second half followed the same game pattern with a cursory twist thrown in. In the end, it doesn’t even matter, but that is the least of the issue with the movie.
Except for the hero, the film is filled with scenes that come across as extremely silly. The thing here is on paper it all looks nice, and the same could be real with narration. But when it comes to bringing the script alive on the big screen, an utter failure can be seen on the part of the director. The subplot involving the girl trafficking and the police station scenes are a joke.
Overall, Ye Mantram Vesave is unquestionably not worth a watch on big screen, but years later, if and when, Vijay Deverakonda becomes a big star, it would be a fun watch just to see his act and know about the overall theme of the movie.
Shivani Singh and others?
Shivani playing the heroine doesn’t have the required presence to make an impact. She is given a good character, but barring few passing shots where she has to look a certain way showing confidence and disdain nothing else works.
The rest of the movie is filled with newcomer, and they all look like misfits. The only other person who registers is the fat guy playing friend to lead hero.
Music and other departments?
Music by Abdus Samad is weak. There is only one song that has a something going for it, and it is repeated twice in male and female versions. The background score is far better. The cinematography and editing are bad. The dialogues are unintentionally funny many times.
There is a Malayalam movie (also dubbed into Telugu) named 100 Days of Love starring Dulquar and Nithya Menen. Alternative take would be to have execution on par with the film with a different cast.

Preview: Ye Mantram Vesave
Vijay Deverakonda who has risen to stardom with successful films like Pelli Choopulu and Arjun Reddy is ready with his next Ye Mantram Vesave. Like all the previous films of Vijay Deverakonda where he played a lead role, Ye Mantram Vesave is also made by a newcomer.
Shridhar Marri directs and produces Ye Mantram Vesave. It introduces Shivani Singh as the heroine. Another new entrant is music director Abdus Samad. Basically, the film when started featured an all-newcomer cast and crew among which was hero Vijay Deverakonda. It so happens that after a long delay, the movie is releasing now.
The past week has gone by with no new releases or screenings across the Telugu states. Will the lack of movies for hungry audience help the long-delayed Ye Mantram Vesave in openings? Or would the now well-known status of Vijay Devarakonda help this dead-on-arrival sort of film get an initial?
