What Is the Film About?
Indian army wants to retrieve a powerful weapon from a vault in space. A group is trained to complete the operation. How Vasu (Jayam Ravi), a thief, finds a place in the group and what happens when he turns rogue while on the operation is what the movie is all about?
How Is Jayam Ravi’s Performance?
Jayam Ravi is alright in the role that requires him to do all his usual but in a different space. The son angle is given to add depth to the role but it doesn’t make the character stand out. It is good for narrative purpose and that’s about it.
Direction by Shakti Soundar Rajan ?
Director Shakti Soundar Rajan’s idea to make a space thriller is appreciable. It is not every day that we watch movies belonging to space. However, he has failed to make full use of the setting and only follows standard plot points seen in Hollywood space flicks.
Right from the opening Tik Tik Tik feels derivative. There is nothing in it apart from the few comedy moments to give it a local feel. The first half of the movie is flat and gains momentum only towards the interval mark.
The second half begins with neat anticipation but soon it fizzles out with the introduction of Chinese setup. It feels so tacky and brings down the whole effort. Again, the idea is right but the masala execution in a silly way robs off any interest. The issue of flat narration is also present in this half as well. The twist and the climax are weak. Overall, Tik Tik Tik is a regular and predictable masala fare in a different setting and that’s about it.
Nivetha Pethuraj and Others?
Apart from the hero, the rest of the cast and crew has very little to do. Jaya Prakash, for example, has very weak characterization and hence fails in leaving an impact. Nivetha Pethuraj feels wasted. There is a comedy track that continues nearly till the end and that’s where these characters come to use.
Music and Other Departments?
The songs by D Imman are predictable and boring. However, the background score is superb and helps in building energy in the narrative. The cinematography is okay. Editing could have been better. The visual effects are decent, mostly, given the scale. Some parts are tacky but that’s expected given the scale.
