A Silly But Fun Outing

What is the film ‘Silly Fellows’ about?
Veerababu (Allari Naresh) lands Soori (Sunil) in trouble when he tricks him to marry Pushpa (Nandini Rai). It affects the plans of Soori’s marriage to a girl of his choice. He must get a divorce from Pushpa. Meanwhile, Veerababu falls in love with Vasanthi (Chitra Shukla) and tries his best to woo her and lands in problems. The solution for their issues lies in the hands of Jacket Janaki Ram (Jayaprakash Reddy). All hell breaks loose when Jacket Janaki Ram accidentally slips into the coma. What happens next is what the film is all about?
How is Allari Naresh’s performance?
Allari Naresh is in his zone like he has always been. The ease in body language and the comic flare are all there, but the content isn’t that strong. This has always been the issue plaguing him. As there are no emotional scenes or acting moments to be highlighted, the weak writing and plain content make it look as if Allari Naresh is just sleepwalking through his part.
Direction By Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao?
Bheemaneni Srinivas is a veteran at what he does, i.e. remake movies successfully. He has tasted success time and again using this time-tested successfull formula. Silly Fellows is another such remake.
The movie has the structure in place along with a fast-paced screenplay that keeps the mindless entertainment coming non-stop. The casting is also mostly spot on, and they further help elevate the content, which is what makes or break the film in the end.
The writing is weak comparatively, and there are some haggard moments which brings down the overall impact compared to the Tamil original. The love track of lead after a point gets stagnating. Although, it is diverted it still feels long. Luckily, there is so much happening elsewhere which doesn’t entirely make the love portions a roadblock.
The first half is better compared to the second as it feels less repetitive and there is a feeling of freshness in writing. The second half gives that repetitive vibe for a part. However, things are back on track again during the pre-climax and climax. There is a smooth flow, and the scenes have that meat to engage. The character of Jacket Janaki Ram recounting the chain of events is hilarious. The very end could have been wrapped up tightly though.
Overall, Silly Fellows delivers what it promises, silly fun outing. If you have nothing else to do at the weekend and wants to enjoy some brainless comedy, here is Silly Fellows.
Chitra Shukla, and others?
Sunil is almost like a parallel lead. He is present throughout and keeps the fun quotient alive. What has been previously said with Allari Naresh also applies to Sunil, but with one slight difference? The comic timing and sharp dialogue delivery is all there, but the innocence that Sunil is known for is missing. The body language has changed after he became a hero and that is continuing here as well. It is unnecessary for that comic sidekick part. There are rigidity and self-awareness in his act that wasn’t there previously when he was a comedian only. It needs to be taken care off for better enjoyment and employment of Sunil in a movie starring a known face in the main lead.
Chitra Shukla, Nandini Rai and Poorna play the female leads. The last one has a brief appearance only though. Chitra Shukla and Nandini Rai are just about okay in their parts.
Apart from Sunil, many other recognisable faces are playing small but essential to narrative characters. Jayaprakash Reddy, Posani Krishna Murali, Raghu, Raja Ravindra, Jhansi, and Brahmanandam are a few among them. They all have done their brief parts well.
Music and other departments?
Music by Sri Vasanth gives an outdated vibe. The attempt to makes the songs funny with real issues as lyrics stick out and appears forced. The background score is forgettable. The cinematography is alright whereas the editing could have been tighter. The writing is passable mostly with a few hilarious segments.
Allari Naresh And Sunil Duo
It is already a remake, and the original has been dubbed into Telugu as well. The alternative take would be to watch the original version.
Did I enjoy it?
Will you recommend it?
Yes, but with slight reservation
