‘U/A’Certified, 2 hrs 28 mins.
What is the film about?
Chaitu (Naga Chaitanya) falls in love with an egoistic girl Anu (Anu Emmanuel). After initial roadblocks, he wins her over. But, bigger troubles lie ahead for him in the form of the mother in law, Shailaja Reddy. How he wins her trust and marries with the blessings of everyone is what the film is about?
How is Naga Chaitanya’s performance?
Naga Chaitanya is at ease in the role given to him. There is a visible effort to put more energy and that is fine. The actor simply breezes through the proceedings and therein is the problem with him. The challenge is missing and so is a genuine difference in the act. It is the same as we have seen before. All the crucial scenes give a dejavu feeling. The repetitiveness is going to be a big problem sooner rather than later.
Direction By Maruthi Dasari?
Maruthi has developed a formula with his movies. He sticks to it religiously and writes engaging comedy blocks to entertain. The story is the same in all films only the comedy changes with new setting and character he takes up.
In Shailaja Reddy Alludu, it is not the hero who is given the ‘character’, he is the typical Telugu cinema hero with all the positivity intact. The issue is with the heroine character and that is ego. Unfortunately for Maruthi, ego is an age-old issue and done in multiple version. In a way, the director goes regressive in outlook with the heroine characterization. She is the one at fault and its the hero who has to bring sense to her by giving a lecture when needed. That’s how the first half ends and we are still fine with it as it manages to entertain.
The major disconnect occurs in the second half when the same ego problem is repeated with the mother of the heroine. It’s an overdose and the comedy and drama centred on it get exhausting after a point. Once the title song is over the narrative takes a free fall and the routine content gets increasingly difficult to manage. We can see the director is trying hard to make things work even on routine terrain, but it simply doesn’t. The comedy in climax begins well but again the cliche dialogues make it worse. It evokes laugh, but unintentionally.
Overall, Shailaja Reddy Alludu is weakest Maruthi outing after Babu Bangaram. The same feeling was there with his last venture as well which means he is on a downward spiral. Planning of release and entertainment in parts is working for him for now. Unless he corrects the obvious faults and comes up with a strong and fresh story, there is bound to be a fall. When it happens it wouldn’t be entirely unexpected.
Anu Emmanuel and others?
Anu Emmanuel has got a routine but likeable part. There is nothing new in it but it works initially because she is the fresh element. Ramya Krishna as Shailaja Reddy is apt for the part. She gets a powerful entry, but as the movie progresses it gets weaker. It shouldn’t be mistaken for the graph in her character. Vennela Kishore is superb and plays his role well. He is largely responsible for the entertainment in the first half. Prudhi takes charge in the second hand but he has a weaker role in comparison. Naresh and Venu are wasted. The rest of the artists are suitable for their small bits.
Music and other departments?
Music and background score by Gopi Sunder is lovely. They certainly add value to the movie. The cinematography is excellent. The editing could have been tighter. The choreography of songs is well done.
Two weeks back came a film named At Nartanasala. It was a washout at cinemas but the basic plot feels similar. And it provides an alternative take. Of course, they also came up with a messy narrative. So, its all about having the best possible entertainment with these routine stories.

Sailaja Reddy Alludu Review by Siddartha Toleti
The biggest problem with Shailaja Reddy Alludu is, it runs out of steam too soon. Neither the emotions nor entertainment work as intended after a while. Atta’s character has no power as the title sounds whereas Alludu character lacks the entertainment, in the second half. For complete details watch out for our review soon.
– Finally the unnecessary ego issues settle between all parties and movie comes to an end. Final report shortly.
– Shailaja Reddy’s character is not as powerful as the name sounds on-screen. The movie is heading towards Climax.
– Chaitu is trying to settle an old ego difference between mother and daughter.
– Shailaja Reddy Alludu second half starated. The story shifts to Shailaja Reddy’s village.
First Half Report:
Shailaja Reddy Alludu has an average first half with less emotional connect and comedy that works in parts. However, with powerful lady Shailaja Reddy’s (Ramya Krishna) entry, hoping for a better second half.
– Interval bang on powerful lady Shailaja Reddy’s introduction.
– Finally, Anu falls for Chaitu. Chaitu’s egoistic father approves their wedding proposal and calls for a suuden engagement to prove his friend wrong and to pacify his ego without even informing Anu’s mother Shailaja Reddy.
– Chaitu is trying to impress egoistic Anu with the help of Chary (Vennela Kishore). The comedy is working in parts so far.
– “Gold Rangu Pilla” and “Anu Baby” songs are just alright on-screen with some simple dance moves.
– Chaitu falls in love with egoistic Anu who has similar qualities as his father.
– Chaitu’s (Naga Chaitanya) father a rich entrepreneur and the symbol of ego.
– Shailaja Reddy Alludu show started with Nani’s voice over about ego clashes.
Shailaja Reddy Alludu US premier live updates will begin at 3.30 am IST (6 pm EST).
Preview: Shailaja Reddy Alludu
There is a lot to talk about ‘Shailaja Reddy Alludu‘ but it isn’t that easy, to begin with. Maruthi and Naga Chaitanya is a typical combination. Both of them have some similarities and a few contradicting things. This duality is what has created an aura around ‘Shailaja Reddy Alludu’.
Everything seems to be in place for the family entertainer coming on this Vinayaka Chavithi. The teaser, the trailer, Naga Chaitanya’s styling and freshness combined with Maruthi’s brand fresh comedy and family drama has worked in the favour of the movie when it comes to grabbing the attention of the viewers with promos.
Both Chaitanya and Maruthi have delivered mixed bags with disappointing outings amidst super hits. The pressure on Naga Chaitanya is even bigger as he has shown some promise via the trailer that he might give a mass treat to Akkineni fans who are hungry for a mass hero treatment for this soft hero.
Except ‘Babu Bangaram’, Maruthi has been delivering in terms of box-office success. But, the audiences are expecting something more from him and there seems to be a promise in ‘Shailaja Reddy Alludu’. All said and done, the movie has its heroine Anu Emmanuel and the selling factor Ramya Krishna all in the right place.
The music by Gopi Sunder is also okay for this family entertainer as everything will depend on the way Maruthi had made it an entertaining outing. This time, the director left his ‘disorder’ concept behind and selected a different concept in the name of an egoistic family.
‘Shailaja Reddy’ Alludu’ is getting a good space for a reasonable release though Chay is competing with none other than his wife Samantha in ‘U Turn’. It is left to be seen if all the positivity was woven around an entertaining story portraying a different Naga Chaitanya. Will Chay-Maruthi combo work wonders, this festival weekend?
