What is the film about?
How a cop Sardaar Gabbar Singh (Pawan Kalyan) saves the village of Ratanpur and Princess Arshi (Kajal) from the tyranny of evil, Bhairav Singh (Sharad Kelkar).
How is Pawan Kalyan’s performance?
Pawan Kalyan is the lifeline of the film. It literally breathes on his screen presence and antics. The performance or rather the act from Pawan Kalyan can be put among his top most active and energetic one’s in his career. However in terms of the dramatic performance there is absolutely nothing in the film bar few glimpses during the interval sequences.
Direction By Bobby?
KS Ravindra aka Bobby made his debut with the film Power which was a typical commercial entertainer that we usually see in Telugu cinema. It was handled neatly for most part and the job was done. Wait, why are we talking about Power? That’s because even though Sardaar Gabbar Singh is second film from the director one can get a feeling that his touch is completely absent in the film. The sharpness on display in the debut film is missing and on contrary we clearly see the signature of lead actor throughout. We therefore feel it would be completely unfair to level all the disappointment on the director alone.
Could Bobby not have done something? Sure he could have had a strong voice in okaying the scenes based on his liking rather than just going along with the stronger force.
Kajal Aggarwal and artist’s performance?
Most of Pawan Kalyan films are said to be one man show act by the star but another strange thing that happens simultaneously in his films is heroine’s too have a part to play and are not just flowerpot characters. Kajal in Sardaar Gabbar Singh is no different as she gets to play a princess. She has ample screen presence and is also integral to the story. Apart from the lead pair it is Sharad Kelkar who gets the best role. His act as Bhairav Singh is fine. Mukesh Rushi gets a different role and he too is okay. There are comedians galore in the film from Jabardast team to Ali, Raghu Babu, Krishna Bhagwan and Brahmanandam but they are all wasted.
Music and other departments?
Music by Devi Sri Prasad is average. His back ground score is better. Cinematography by Arthur Wilson is alright. Editing is borderline poor. Choreography of couple of songs is good. Dialogues are weak and when compared with Gabbar Singh they are completely off the mark.
Pawan Kalyan (Actor)
Pawan Kalyan (Story and Screenplay)
A trimmed film focusing either entirely on the village vis a vis the cop or a drama cum love story involving the Rajputs and the cop.
Did I enjoy it?
Mostly Pawan Kalyan
Will you recommend it?
Only to die hard Pawan Kalyan fans.
