Very Routine But Fun

What is the film Raju Gadu about?
Raju (Raj Tharun) is a kleptomaniac. What happens when he falls in love with a girl Tanvi (Amyra Dastur) but her family is against thieves? How will Raju win over the family is what the movie is all about?
How is Raj Tarun’s performance?
Raj Tharun is likeable in a role that is tailor-made for him. He breezes through the film effortlessly romancing heroine. There is only one emotional scene towards the end, and he is effective in it. Another big plus for Raj Tharun is the chemistry he has with co-actors, be it the heroine or the parents.
Direction By Sanjana Reddy?
Sanjana Reddy makes her debut with the film Raju Gadu. She picks an idea from mentor Maruthi and has managed to weave a predictable but entertaining outing in tow with writer Veligonda Srinivas.
The story of the movie is utterly predictable. We know from the beginning what is going to happen, there is no surprise. However, the audience is engaged, and that is due to the writing. The entertaining dialogues keep flowing until the pre-climax. The gags are mostly family friendly with very few crossing the lines.
There is an air of old world quality about it, which gives Rajugadu a dated vibe, but that is alright for the most part. The ‘Maruthi’ formula of different illness of hero is taken and used here. There is a repetitive feeling because of that aspect, but a focused narrative and funny writing make the thing work.
The movie falters in the final act. The resolution is very weak. Also, the aim to entertain in the pre-climax falls flat. It is an important part and leaves one underwhelmed in the end while coming out. But, looking at the whole picture, there is enough entertainment to keep one hooked for the most part. Nothing exceptional, but it works for the weekend.
Amyra Dastur and others?
Amyra Dastur has a typical heroine role where she has nothing much to do except falls for the hero and introduce him to the family. After a small misunderstanding, there is acceptance and a happy ending. The actress does all that with ease. However, the real hero of the movie is Rajendra Prasad. He does all the heavy lifting of carrying punches in this comedy family entertainer. He is present right from the beginning until the end and is a parallel lead along with the hero. Sithara ably supports him. Nagineedu and Rao Ramesh do their regular. Prudhvi comedy works out. The rest are alright in their small parts.
Music and other departments?
Gopi Sundar’s music is unremarkable. The background score too is forgetful. The cinematography is alright. The editing could have been better. The writing for a routine comedy entertainer is perfectly fine.
Having a unique disease for the lead is the formula here. Better gags would make the formulaic presentation look livelier.
