Love story of a pantry boy Balli Sivaji (Dhanush) and touch up girl for the heroine, Saroja (Keerthy Suresh). What happens to their love story on the train journey which is out of control?

How is Dhanush’s performance?
This is a bread and butter kind of act for Dhanush. He has done many films with similar characteristics in the past, just the setup and genre changes here. There are absolutely no scenes that make one go wow in terms of acting. All that Dhanush has to do is be likable and he does it with good conviction.

Train has to be among the weakest films of the director if one looks at other films he has made. This is a poor and derivative film. The director has picked up a semi-popular genre and noted down all various plot points across different films. He then integrates all these into his film.

Right from the beginning till the end the film feels like one big check box of scenes from popular films. When he is not showing those clichés, he inserts scenes making fun of the media and politics. Nothing, absolutely nothing feels organic and when a film of this kind is dragged for nearly three hours, one feels nothing but restless. What makes things even worse is the tacky special effects.

The film only feels interesting towards the interval when the actual story starts. Before that its one long boring love story and after that it’s one long boring cliché of a movie. Apart from that block, there are few genuinely funny moments in between that work due to the spontaneity of the actors. Overall, Rail is just a non-interesting film despite all the efforts to engage in place.

If you have seen Nenu Sailaja, then the Keerthi Suresh one gets to see in this film is exactly opposite of it. Now its good to have difference and she must be appreciated for it. But apart from the visible variation, she fails big time in the film as an actor. Not acting, is not a problem here, she overacts which makes everything look comical. Harish Uttaman acts well but feels unnecessary in the final scheme of things. Thambi Ramayya is fine in his part but he is getting stereotyped pretty soon. Ganesh Venkatraman is wasted. Others are okay for the parts they are taken for but nothing stands out.

Music by D Imman is nice. Two songs are good. Cinematography is good but special effects are very poor and tacky, it gives an artificial feel to the film. Editing is terrible. Dialogues create no impact apart from occasional satires.

The problem with the film is too many “inspirations”. Alternative take would be having less number of inspiration and a racy screenplay.
