What is “Preminchali” about?
Preminchali tells the story of teenagers of today who are take poor decisions and end up damaging the social fabric with their immatureness. Here the teenagers are Karthik and Swetha who are drawn towards each other more in a lusty way than true love. What happens once the reality hits them is shown in a very detailed and realistic manner in the film.
How is Santosh’s performance?
It’s just a perfect casting rather than any performance here. Santosh Ramesh playing a regular and typical youth looks the part. As far as performance goes, it’s decent at best, however as said above the casting makes it look convincing.
What about Suseenthiran’s direction?
Suseendhiran after directing a dud like Veedinthe made this film to get back to his roots of a making a gripping emotional drama. He succeeds largely in it although it lacks the polishing at time. It is raw and far too in your face drama but neatly executed. The director passes the messages he wants to without diluting it and wherever possible he has infused humor.
Other artists performance?
Manisha Yadav too much like Karthik is well cast for the part and she makes the character look believable as a result. Also unlike the hero she has a much more complex role and she does just to it even though it’s very raw. Jayaprakash as the father of Swetha (Manisha Yadav) and Thulasi as mother have done very well. In the scenes that they are required to show the emotional they bring a natural depth to it, especially Thulasi as mother is fantastic. Arjun is lovable as the reliable friend who is always there. There are few other characters as well but these are the one’s that make mark.
How is Music, Songs and other departments?
Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja is poor in the dubbing thanks to the lyrics basically but even here the climax song stands out due to veteran SP Balasubramanium’s rendition. Background score is much more effective as one would expect from the music director. Cinematography is fine and captures the world it’s set in well and adds to the realistic feel. Editing could have been better.
Too raw at times.
Slow paced narration.
What about the box office performance of the film?
The opening has been dismal despite holiday release as many aren’t even aware of a film like these releasing. Even with the word of mouth spreading the film has very little chance to pick up and survive as the weeks ahead are crowded.
Did I enjoy it?
It is not a film that one would enjoy, but it’s engaging.
Will you recommend it?
Yes, for those who long engaging dramas.
