What Is the Film Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene About?
Arjun and Madhavi lose their mirror images and see someone else as reflection. It is later revealed that the mirror images are of ghosts who are haunting them. They are Rishi and Dia. Why are the two haunting Arjun and Madhavi? What is the truth, and how do the spirits leave them is what the movie is all about?
How Is Sundeep Kishan’s Performance?
Sundeep Kishan comes up with an engaging performance that is well controlled by his standards. There are some moments which do show overacting aggressive self, but they are limited and are in check. Instead, more focus is kept on the emotional side, which presents a win-win situation for the actor.
There is nothing special performance-wise and its the subject that does all the talking. But, given how Sundeep Kishan hasn’t been able to find himself in such circumstances recently, it is a relief. We are only looking at the Telugu subjects, that is.
Direction by Caarthick Raju?
Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene has an exciting, and intriguing concept, and all writer and director Caarthik Raju needs to do is narrate a compelling story around it without losing the interest of the audience. It is easier said than done, and we know why watching the film.
One can divide Ninu Veedani Needanu Nene into two halves, a concept-driven first half and emotionally driven second half. Among the two, the first one is what hooks everyone. The narrative starts with a bang and continues that way until the interval with thrills, twists and entertainment embedded into the proceedings smartly. The freshness of the whole thing is the best part.
The interval bang arrives in a very unexpected manner and is sure to take people by surprise. It is more so because it is centred on the hero and one doesn’t expect that even if the thought might be there at the back of the mind.
The opening few minutes of the second half continues from where things were left at the interval mark. However, the tone and narrative changes track and momentum as soon as we get to the real ‘story’ at hand, and the concept related content is either over or gets into a repetitive zone.
From then onwards, we get into a highly predicable zone with no real surprise and contrived narrative choices. The emotional sequence, in the end, involving the parents, is neatly but feels highly manipulative at the same time. It continues in the same vein until the few moments before the end.
Overall, given the concept, a lot could have been achieved, and it is a failure at the story level, and hence a disappointment at the same time. Overall, the first half alone offers enough to warrant a one-time watch.
Anya Singh and Others?
While it is a relief that heroines off late are not given the routine dumb parts that involves them all lovey-dovey and breaking into dance whenever hero makes a positive advance, it is also equally poor that there are used as part of the narrative for just namesake. Some such parts are so forgettable one doesn’t remember their presence at all. The role of Anya Singh is a little better than that. She is okay for her part.
Vennela Kishore gets a different role than usual even though it harks to the same comic strain. Murali Sharma gets a decent character, and he shines as usual. The same is the case with Posani Krishna Murali who manages to generate a few laughs due to the uniqueness of the situations. Poornima Bhagyaraj does well towards the end, but others are wasted.
Music and Other Departments?
The songs by SS Thaman are very routine. The background score is better, though. The cinematography is neat, and editing keeps the pace fast without losing track of the proceedings. The writing is alright for the terrain.
Missing Emotional Connect
A flashback story as imaginative as the core concept would have done wonders for the film.
Did I Enjoy It?
Yes, in parts
Will You Recommend It?
