What is the film about?
Kadambari (Nayanthara) is the daughter of a police whose life is shattered one day when a rowdy attacks her family. Her mother is killed and she becomes deaf. How this deaf girl takes revenge on the rowdy with the help of a guy (Vijay Sethupathi) is what the film is all about.
How is Vijay Sethupathi’s performance?
This is the first glimpse of Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi for Telugu audience and he does leave a positive impact. He brings freshness to the part which is the biggest plus for the film. The naivety required for the part is neatly presented by him and this combined with a solid presence makes one engage with the character through and through.
Direction By Vignesh Shivan?
Vignesh Shivan returns to direction after a considerable gap post his debut. The gap seems to have done him world of good. He retains his good qualities from the past and has improved tremendously on the weakness, the content. Stylish presentation is like an added bonus.
Nenu Rowdy Ne has a pretty thin storyline and depended heavily on screenplay and performances, both of which are superb in the film. The problem here is the tone of the film which is very difficult to balance, it oscillates between very serious and silly sort of fun all the way till the end with a revenge theme at the core. This mix is not everyone’s cup of tea and that is where the like and dislike of the film comes from. We have liked it for most part. The film surely could have been shorter, it drags in parts.
Nayanayatara and others?
Nayanthara is fabulous in the film giving one of her career best performance as a deaf girl. For example, her action when she learns about the death of her father is simply brilliant. Parthiban is perfect for the character he has been taken to play. He comes his own during the climax where gets maximum screen time. RJ Balaji is apt playing the reliable friend. Finally Radhika has a very likeable police role which is she does with all its innocence intact.
Music and other departments?
If Nayanthara is the star of the film performance wise, then music director Anirudh Ravichander is the second best thing of the film courtesy his music. It will easily find a place among the top three albums of his career. There is a predictable problem with dubbing of lyrics though. Even the background music is superb. Technically the film is slick with good editing and cinematography. Dialogues stick to the context and provide fun.
