What is the film Naa Peru Surya about?
Surya (Allu Arjun) must obtain a certificate from Rama Krishna Raju (Arjun) that certifies his control of anger. He has 21 days to prove that he can control his rage and achieve his dream. Will Surya fulfil his goal?
How is Allu-Arjun’s performance?
First of all Allu Arjun must be appreciated for picking up another subject that tonally and making wise far removed from what he has done previously. Looking beyond appreciation, the themes are so vastly different that it helps give the actor a versatile impression on the viewers with subtle changes in performance and total transformation in looks.
We get exactly that in Naa Peru Surya. The military backdrop offers a lot of scope for Allu Arjun to look a certain way that can be mistaken for versatile acting. Leaving aside that “effect” Allu Arjun has put his hundred percent effort for the role. It is a toned down variation of Sarrainodu mass with an added dash of attitude. All his scenes with senior actor Arjun are good, but the confrontation scenes stand out. Apart from them, there are few others where he has pushed his emotional act, and they deserve acknowledgement. Dance-wise there is nothing in the movie apart from one song.
Direction By Vakkantham Vamsi?
Naa Peru Surya is an essential film for writer Vakkantham Vamsi. It is his directorial debut, and a lot of how the film turns up eventually is a result of his direction. The first time director unquestionably wants to impress the audience, and it is an excellent drive for any debutant. It helps many directors to get the best, some, unfortunately, are overwhelmed by the moment, and to impress, they overstuff the product. The latter happens with Naa Peru Surya.
Too many plots and too many scenes trying to say something profound are the film’s striking problem. While the issue mentioned is a problem, the classy and too subtle style of narration further compounds the effect.
Naa Peru Surya is packed with too much content that lacks the impact the promotion of the movie promised. The flat execution is another downer. If we leave those issues aside, a classic story and performance are hiding underneath them. The father and son track, the patriotic angle involving character, Muslim youth getting misguided, they are all great plots on their own and can each be told exclusively in different films. Still, it is to the credit of the director and actor that they hold the attention with so much happening.
The first half is mostly flat with a superb introduction, confrontation and engaging interval. The second half starts predictably but soon gets into the “character” track which is a make or break sort of deal. If one likes it, they will love the movie otherwise they won’t, as without the connect, the rest of the film would look like one massive never-ending climax. Those who have a connection will find the perfect catharsis during the confrontation scene with professor Arjun.
Overall, unexciting narration mars the intended effect, but Naa Peru Surya still has enough moments to warrant an one time watch in cinemas. Too many subplots derail the narrative that otherwise had the cult classic vibes within commercial space.
Anu Emmanuel and others?
Anu Emmanuel has a regular heroine role who looks glamorous but acts dumb. She is beautiful in her part. It is Arjun who has the better scope as an actor compared to the rest. He is sadly riddled with weak characterisation. Apart from them, there are many noticeable faces in the movie, but none have a definite role. Sharat Kumar has been given a typical menacing at the beginning villain character. He does it with aplomb. Pradeep Rawath is wasted. The same is the case with Boman Irani. Rao Ramesh is alright. Vennela Kishore provides comic relief. Posani Krishna Murali is another wasted potential.
Music and other departments?
Music by Vishal and Sekhar is very classy and goes well with the overall mood of the film. The background score is neat. The cinematography is superb. Editing could have been better. The choreography of “Lover Also Fighter Also” stands out, whereas, “Iraga Iraga” disappoints in picturization as well as placement.

Preview: Naa Peru Surya
Allu Arjun is gradually expanding his market and ‘Naa Peru Surya Naa Illu India’ is coming at the juncture of his career when he is turning a sure shot with his performance. Needless to say that it looks like a character-driven film like Rajasekhar and Amala Akkineni’s ‘Aagraham’.
So, when a character-driven movie turns out to be a success, the hero will walk away with the lion’s share of the movie’s success. Added to this, the movie was directed by debut director Vakkantham Vamsi. Henceforth, Allu Arjun would be the one who would benefit the most.
Even if the film doesn’t work, Allu Arjun may walk away with fame for handling a character that has multiple shades aka patriotism, anger issues and love. That means, even critical acclaim means a lot for the film and if it works commercially along with the critical acclaim, it would be like the icing on the cake.
Allu Arjun’s last release ‘Duvvada Jagannadham’ was an utter disappointment. The collections of the movie and also the director’s take on the reviewers and the critics created unnecessary controversies for the movie. Added to this, DJ didn’t leave much credit to the role he had essayed and box-office wise, even.
The music of the film was refreshing, away from the commercial tunes we’ve got to hear from the recent Telugu movies. The music directors combo, Vishal and Sekhar stuck to their plusses instead of going out of their comfort zone.
Anu Emmanuel glamour may help in getting repeat audiences once the film opens up to a positive talk. She is ultra glamorous in the movie and we hope she does a ‘Rangasthalam’ kinda ‘Jigelu Rani’ repeat audiences.
We know the writing prowess of Vakkantham Vamsi. But, we are yet to know how he had handled a star like Allu Arjun in a patriotic role with multiple shades. One must say that ‘Naa Peru Surya‘ solely depends on the hero’s shoulders. Let’s see how well he had carried the role. It’s time to wait for the genuine Naa Peru Surya review from our mirchi9 team.
