As the title suggests it is a biopic on popular cricketer MS Dhoni. More than the cricket side of his life the film is devoted to his personal life.

How is Sushant Singh Rajput’s performance?
Sushanth Singh Rajput lives as Dhoni in the biopic. It is clear from the portrayal that he knows how important this role is in his career and he puts his career best effort into the role. He lives and breathes like Dhoni.

Neeraj Pandey is no novice when it comes to direction. He has made some of the very popular nationalist films like A Wednesday and Baby along with Special 26. The common thing among all these films is he gives a rooted cum realistic touch to all of them.

With Dhoni, that is the biggest plus of the film. Right from the beginning one feels a connect with the film. It continues that way till the end of the first half of the film. The problem with the film starts post-intermission when the love angle takes over. Even though it may be reality people vast majority have other expectations when it comes to the biopic. They want to know the great tactician that MS Dhoni is, but we get nothing of that sort in the film after Dhoni had passed a great hurdle of getting selected into the team. The love portions are also shot very in a very testing fashion which yields no positive result in the end. The climax, showing the winning moments of India winning the World Cup have been done well elevating the dull second half. Overall for the thoroughly engaging first half alone the film is must watch.

The biggest success of the film is the perfect casting. Every actor, however, small or long he may be, has been well cast. Disha Patani and Kiara Advani are an example of inspired casting. Both play the characters they are assigned very well. Anupam Kher as the ever worried typical middle-class family father is a natural. Rajesh Sharma as the coach who encourages Dhoni is another example of perfect casting. Bhoomika also plays her role well without ever going overboard. Even many other choices have been well made that give the film a very real feel.

Music by Amaal Mallik goes with the mood of the film. The background score is also good. The cinematography is superb throughout. Editing should have been better. Dialogues are good.
