Lifeless Hero Bores To Death
‘U’ Certified, 2 hrs 05 mins
What Is the Film About?
Circumstances are such dire that Gandhi (Rakshit) has to go to London to make a living. What happens when he gets rejected at the immigration and how is his story connected to Suryakantham (Swathi) is what the film is all about?
How Is Rakshit’s Performance?
Rakshit is bland and unimpressive. A film like London Babulu needs the lead character to be relatable. The actor needs to convey the emotions, and he has a lot on that regard. It’s not just dramatic act, but there is lot of comedy that needs a pro to make things work. Rakshit is far from being that pro.
Direction by Chinni Krishna?
Director Chinni Krishna has a decent story with good emotions in place. His bad luck is that he has a poor lead in charge of the proceedings. There is nothing the director can do with such a blank and expressionless face.
The first half of the movie still feels passable thanks to the comedy that is part of the narrative. It flows smoothly and with actor who can make the punches land, there is a considerable entertainment. One kind off feels an emotional connection due to the middle class and identifiable situations.
It is in the second half the trouble starts when the hero has to lead and express various emotions and plight of the character. The entire half regressed from the start to the end. It makes the overall movie a boring and stale watch.
Swathi Reddy and Others?
Swathi plays the female lead in the movie. She has small screen time, but she makes her part noticeable. It is another simpleton kind of role for her, which she plays with ease. Sathya as Pandu shines. In fact he is better in one emotional scene that the lead actor of the film. Murali Sharma is effective, even though it is very short. Comedian Dhanraj gets a serious role for a change, and he does well. The rest of character parts have very less to do, among them, Ali registers with his lawyer act.
Music and Other Departments?
Music by K is alright, unfortunately it doesn’t register at all due to the way they are inserted into the narrative. The background score too is never felt. The cinematography is poor. The editing is okay. Dialogues lack the depth that is needed for the emotions to work.
Watch the original version starring Vijay Sethupathi.
