navadeepWhat is “Ice Cream” about?
Ice Cream is another variant of the paranormal activity styled horror film cum thriller. Strange things happen when Renu (Tejaswi) and Vishal (Navadeep) start exploring the new apartment they are in after Renu decides to stay in it and invite Vishal after experiencing fear. It leads to many complicated situations and ultimately becomes a question of survival. Will they survive is finally what the film is about.

How is performance by Navadeep?
What could have been a refreshing role for a change for Navadeep turns out to be another lost cause. It is so because the actor is given a poor role and under utilized. In the regular portions he comes across jaded too and it doesn’t help the cause either.

director
Direction by Ram Gopal Varma?
Ram Gopal Varma is clearly a pioneer in Telugu cinema when it comes to introducing and adapting technology. However if there is a one thing we wished the director didn’t let his hands on were the low end beginners only tech to make movie. Ever since the introduction of this technology the director has been trying to satisfy his fascination of making movies using abstract angles and concepts. Thanks to the technology its cheap to make and the director manages to break even using his brand name and promotions.

In all this process he has become a caricature of his past self. Words are not enough to stress how predictable his weird camera movements and shots have become. The worse part here is that all of this doesn’t give the cinematic experience on big screen that the director is so hoping for. Ice Cream is easily the worse among his horror escapades. The basic idea had the scope had some work being done on it script wise rather than on the camera angles which takes the center stage.

tejaswi
How is Tejaswi performance?
Even in this mess Tejaswi manages to hold attention with her performance. It is however more to do with the situations that gives her maximum scope to showcase everything she has got. Apart from the two primary characters the film has very limited numbers of actors and even the one’s who are present doesn’t add anything to the overall proceedings with their performance.

Sai_Karthik_Music_Director_
How is Sai Karthik’s Music and other departments ?
Music has really no importance in the film as in songs. It is the background score which needs to be looked into here and in this crucial aspect too the films fails in creating any impact. All it has with respect to the sound is standard routine fare that one pretty much comes to expect from films of this kind. In fact the way its overdone takes away whatever little positivity it could muster at the initial stages. If there is one thing that RGV needs to be appreciated for, it is the visual quality of his films, even at such low tech he manages to get crispy clear images thanks to his wonderful extraction of work from cinematographer. Editor should have been ruthless by cutting a lot of unnecessary footage.

Highlights?
Short run time.
Basic idea.

Drawbacks?
Stagnant screenplay.
Climax.
Sound design.

ice-cream-movie-still
What about the box office performance of the film?
Ram Gopal Varma has become a box office poison long ago. His films have rarely opened well and this is no exception even with the ‘nude’ publicity. Since the word of mouth is going to be bad, the film really no chance of a pick up. In a weeks or fortnight’s time we may be writing the same for another RGV film.

Did I enjoy it?
No.

Will you recommend it?
No.
