A Feel Good Love Story

What is the film Hello about?
The inseparable childhood friend Seenu and Junnu are separated when the latter’s parents get transferred to Delhi. While leaving to Delhi, Junnu gives her phone number which Seenu misses. Years later, Seenu is turned in to Avinash (Akhil), and Junnu aka Priya (Kalyani Priyadarshan) is still waiting for him. What is the story of Seenu turning into Avinash and how did Seenu aka Avinash meet Junnu aka Priya on one fateful day after 14 years is what the film is all about?
How is Akhil Akkineni’s performance?
Akhil looks more confident in Hello compared to his debut. The dances are still in the hyper zone, but slightly relaxed. The screenplay is designed to suit the strengths of Akhil, highlighting action and dances with light-hearted romance and family bonding. There are no significant dramatic scenes where one can be impressed with the acting. The one big moment he has in the climax is weakly enacted, and heroine dominates it.
Direction By Vikram Kumar?
Director Vikram Kumar has established a name for him as someone who narrates complicated stories with extreme simplicity. The highlight of his movies is the fresh approach in narration with a straightforward and engaging narrative. Hello is another film in the similar vein, and the director delivers, again.
Hello starts off slowly, and the pace remains the same throughout. It has a very simple story that we know at the beginning itself where it will end. The magic here is that we are glued to the proceedings until the end even after knowing what is going to happen. That is power and importance of screenplay here. It is fresh, and emotions are pure which makes an instant connect.
The movie can’t be divided into a first and second half here, it is a small break to have an interval point for one continuous progression The runtime is also less. There is a seamless flashback portion inserted into the narrative at timely points. The screenplay builds the emotions correctly, aided by an excellent editing. There is right build up to the climax, and the ending is neatly done.
The film has its share of problems in subplots. At points, it is clear that things are getting intentionally stretched to extend the runtime. Also, the slow progress with a weak and predictable story might start to bother after a point of time, as it all about the screenplay and that is needlessly stretched. Overall, there is a satisfied feeling at the end of watching a film that entertains in a fresh packaging. Hello, therefore, is an easy one time watch.
Kalyani Priyadarshan and others?
Kalyani Priyadarshan making her debut with Hello is impressive. She has done well in her part which is substantial to the movie along with the hero. There are only a few expressions, but she does them well. In emotional scenes, Kalyani shines. In fact, she steals the show like in the climax. Jagapathi Babu and Ramya Krishna are perfect as the elder couple. Ramya Krishna’s too cute act gets on the nerve at times, but it is alright. Jagapathi Babu is reliable. Ajay is wasted in the end. The two child artists were fabulous.
Music and other departments?
Music by Anup Rubens is good, but it is the background score that stands out. It is excellent. The technical department has done a brilliant job. The cinematography, editing, and action were superb. The dialogues are neatly written.
Somehow there is no sense of real tension in the movie. The cell phone track looks like an add-on to have action. Instead, if it was adequately blended into the narrative, maybe Hello could have been a more robust outing.
Did I enjoy it?
Will you recommend it?
Hello Review by Siddartha Toleti
– Final Report:
Hello comes with excellent making quality and fresh Parkour style fights but storywise it could have been more engaging. Akhil shows a big improvement from his début movie. Visit back for our frank review soon.
– The idea used for Seenu finding his soul mate Junnu’s phone number could have been better. Finally, it is an okay ending.
– Ajay’s villian character wasted big time. It is a poorly written fun track on the negative role.
– Vennela Kishore gets a blink and miss role. He dances for “Merise Merise” song and disappears.
– After a brief stint of Ajay’s villainy act story progressing at slow pace.
– First Half Report:
Hello has a very crisp first half without any major happenings other than setting up the base for the main plot. Akhil shows promise in Parkour style fights, they are fresh. The second half is critical for the film, stay tuned for the update.
– Kalyani Priyadarshan has a very brief appearance in the first half.
– Kids flashback episode takes time but it’s a pleasant one that sets the base for the story. Boy and Girl acted as Seenu and Junnu are so adorable, they have got a very good screen presence and they did their part extremely well.
– Jagapati Babu and Ramya Krishna raise Seenu. More than Jagapati Babu, Ramya Krishnan steals the show in sentimental scenes if her over sentimental act does not bother you.
– Seenu (Akhil) loses the phone that has the last incoming number to find his soul mate. The story rolls into the flashback on Seenu and Junnu (Kalyani) as kids.
– Simple and pleasant intro for Akhil without any flashiness of big hero. Akhil makes entry with “Hello” title song, simple but different dance moves. Very cool dances as shown in the trailer.
– Hello show started with Nag’s voice over on how destiny unites people.
Hello movie live updates will begin at 1 am IST
It’s a very rare situation when an upcoming movie of a new hero erases the bad memories of a disaster debut and gives a feeling that the hero’s second movie is, in fact, his first movie. It’s the magic of director Vikram Kumar through the teaser and trailer.
No doubt, it’s a critical film for Akhil after a disastrous debut, especially, when Nag wants to make his son a star hero for future. The film should erase all the bad memories and emerge as a winner and also prove that Akhil is indeed a hero material to look out for.
When it comes to Akhil’s looks and dances, he is good but the real problem lies with his acting. Though he didn’t get any challenging role in the debut movie, he failed to impress with his acting. So, it’s crucial for him to impress the audiences with his acting, even.
‘Hello‘ is almost like his debut and he needs to impress big time and make everyone believe him as a future hero. When it comes to the music of the movie, all the songs are decent and being a love story, it has all melodies which seem to be in the right place to generate the feel.
The credibility of director Vikram Kumar is helping the movie to put up a tough fight with Nani’s movie and hence, the comparisons with Nani’s ‘Hello’ are obvious. Akhil’s movie has to overcome all the odds and challenges and get a good opening, which would serve the purpose.
Besides good buzz in the domestic market, ‘Hello’ will have a good opening in the US, as well. Thanks to director Vikram Kumar as he is a favourite of the US folks. The trailer was impressive and promising. Let’s see if it repeats itself in the film, too. Just wait for our genuine Hello movie review. Stay tuned folks.
Hello US Premier gross: $207,989 as of 4 AM EST.
