Lawrence Ganga-Kanchana 2 ReviewWhat is the film about?
The lengths a TV Channel goes to beat it’s rival channel and become number one. How does characters of Raghava (Raghava Lawrence) and Nandini (Tapsee) and Gundu Shiva (Raghava Lawrence) and Ganga (Nithya Menen) fit into this narrative forms the full picture.

How is Lawrence’s performance?
Raghava Lawrence is in his elements as he enjoys doing this. He relishes every single moment to the fullest that sometimes becomes a problem because things go overboard. Overall there is nothing new on display here from here, we have seem him do all this before and with a bit of restraint too.

Director Lawrence Ganga-Kanchana 2 ReviewDirection By Lawrence?
Direction by Lawrence too is like his action. He has fun with the material which is also funny to the audience and there should be no doubt in this regard. It is the overboard nature that hurts the movie’s eventual potential. It is as if the director is so much in love with his material that he has forget to edit out the unnecessary melodrama and overdone comedy. Some scenes as a result feel very lengthy and the comedy feels repetitive due to this overzealous nature of the director.

First half of the film is good in comparison to the second precisely due to the above mentioned reason. Things get heavy and feels overstretched in the second hour. The performances and the fast pace still makes up for this to an extent. But a more trimmed and to the point second half would have been wonderful for the universal appeal of the film.

Tapsee Pannu Ganga-Kanchana 2 ReviewTapsee Pannu and others performance?
Tapsee has got a good role after some time and she tries her best to make a mark. One must appreciate her effort to accept such role and give it her best shot but one must say it is just about adequate in the end, especially when someone like Nithya Menen plays the same character to much more emotional depth. The rest of the characters are used more for the comedy like Kovai Sarala and Sriman. They all shine in the moments given to them, Kovai Sarala especially is a hoot when she encounters the ghost for the first couple of times along with Renuka . Jayaprakash, Manobala etc are under utilized.

Thaman Ganga-Kanchana 2 ReviewMusic and other departments?
Music for the film is provided by various composers and its nothing home to write about. Background music which plays a very vital role in films of these genre to make an impact, is done well by SS Thaman. It is a big plus to the film. The VFX are cheap and look cartoony all the times. Dialogues are hilarious in places but decent overall. Dubbing is done neatly for important characters.

Highlights Ganga-Kanchana 2 ReviewHighlights?
Horror and Comedy.
Campy fun thoughout.
First Half.

Drawbacks?
Lengthy and repetitive scenes.
Heavy handed and uneven second half.
Songs placement .

Drawbacks Ganga-Kanchana 2 ReviewAlternative take:
The film is nicely set up and has a decent story but the overkill with comedy negates any moment that could bring a chill down the spine. The film is a horror comedy but there is really no horror in the film. Even the horror shots are done in a very predictable manner giving us a dejavu feeling. An alternative take would be a film where there is more balance between the chills and the comedy.

Did I enjoy it?
Yes.

Will you recommend it?
Yes, to horror movie lovers of mass variety that lacks sophistication.
