What Is the Film About?
Mohan Ranga (Nithiin) arrives in the US for a job. Accidentally he happens to meet Megha (Megha Aakash). How do the accidents keep occurring at different points bringing them together is what the film is all about?
How Is Nithiin’s Performance?
Nithiin is fabulous. If there has to be a top reason to watch the movie and be engaged to the narrative even at the most dullest points, it is due to him. The actor has found a niche in romantic genre, he is like fish in water and smoothly handles the proceedings. It also helps that he has developed an excellent restraint and allows certain moments to breathe.
Direction by Krishna Chaitanya?
Director Krishna Chaitanya had his task cut out the moment he chose a story that is based on two simple lines. The narrative has to be sharp and fun-filled to make an impact and grab audience attention. Unfortunately, the director only succeeds partially.
First let us look at the good, the positive aspect. Krishna Chaitanya has managed to create few well-staged comedy scenes successfully. There are few of them and are present in both the first and second half. The comedy scenes are followed by the “small moments” between the lead pair. They range from okay to downright silly and contrived. But, still, they are alright and could be given a pass.
The problem with the film and where it fails is the actual hooking element, the chance co-incidents. They might appear fine on paper, but the way they are translated on the screen lack the magic or the wow factor. We don’t buy the central situations that bring the pair together. Both the execution and sometimes the placement feels tacky or rushed, making it look amateurish. The climax tests our patience in that aspect because we know what is going to happen, in the end. Only extraordinary conviction is execution can make things like these work. That, sadly, doesn’t happen here.
On the whole, Chal Mohan Ranga has few moments that literally one roll on the floor laughing. Few dialogues strike the chord. However, where it all matters, it falls flat, making the whole exercise tiresome and dull, in the end.
Megha Akash and Others?
In her second outing with Nithiin, Megha Aakash gets a better role. She is given scope to both act and also be glamorous, without having to overexpose. The actress shines in the latter aspect. As far as performance is considered, she is alright. There are many actors apart from the lead, each has a few scenes, or are part of a funny scene. Madhu Nandan is alright in that aspect, and so is Prabhaas Seenu. Sathya is distinct in the second half. Naresh and Pragati do their usual. Lizzy is an excellent addition to the supporting cast. Rao Ramesh delights as usual. Narra Sreenu is okay with an interesting character.
Music and Other Departments?
SS Thaman has once again come up with terrific work. He stands out both in music and background score. The cinematography is excellent. Editing could have been better. The dialogues are good in parts.

There is a certain curiosity and certain expectations riding on ‘Chal Mohana Ranga‘ (CMR) as big names like Pawan Kalyan and Trivikram are associated with it. If they are producing the movie, it means audiences will expect something different.
The music album of the film delivered by SS Thaman was decent and there are a couple of catchy numbers that might help the movie big time if the story turns out to be appealing. For Nithiin, CMR is coming after a washout in the form of ‘LIE’ and hence, it’s very important that it fares decently.
The heroine, Megha Akash is yet to make a mark in the Telugu Film Industry and she had been the female lead for Nithiin in his previous movie ‘LIE’. The story of the movie was given by Trivikram who is one of the producers besides PK and Sreshth Movies. If this film works, it will be a relief for Trivikram’s brand.
Director Krishna Chaitanya’s debut movie ‘Rowdy Fellow’ didn’t do well at the box-office. Nevertheless, Trivikram and this young director developed the script, together. He is confident that joyful films work big time in this era.
