Telugu Desam Party Visakhapatnam South MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar met Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today in Amaravati. Earlier yellow party MLAs Vallabhaneni Vamsi, Karanam Balaram and Maddali Giri dump cycle and extended support to the ruling party
As in a new practice by YSR Congress to evade disqualification for the defectors, Vasupalli did not wear the YSR Congress Kanduva but his sons did. However, speaking to the media after the meeting, he went on to say he joined the YSR Congress. TDP maintained its hold in Visakhapatnam city in the 2019 elections despite YSR Congress swept the entire state.
Four out of the four seats under the city went to the TDP. However, the ruling party leaders say the situation has changed for the better since Visakhapatnam was made the executive capital. When Vasupalli joined the party, Vijayasai Reddy declared, “There is no doubt that the TDP will be wiped out in Visakhapatnam.”
If that is true then YSR Congress would have admitted him directly into the party and go for a by-election. Naturally, the ruling party will have some advantage in the by-elections but YSR Congress is not keen on taking any risk. Does that mean that the YSR Congress is still struggling to manage grip on Vishakapatnam.
