TDP Senior Leader Ganji Chiranjeevi had joined YSR Congress in the presence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. There were rumors that Chiranjeevi will be the party’s candidate from Mangalagiri but it turned out to be otherwise.
Mangalagiri present MLA Alla Rama Krishna Reddy announced that he would contest from the same constituency in 2024 as well.
Ganji Chiranjeevi will be appointed as YSR Congress Weavers Wing President in the place of Kurnool MP Dr. Sanjeev Kumar.
If Alla gets to contest, it will be a big surprise for sure. He is facing severe anti-incumbency and also, and political experts say a BC candidate will be a better bet for YSRCP in this scenario.
At the same time, Chiranjeevi is also not a strong candidate for Mangalagiri. Chiranjeevi always had no strength on his own and whatever he was is due to the party’s strength and community strength to some extent.
The fact that no leader from TDP came out with him is an indication of it.
Former Minister Nara Lokesh who lost this seat in 2019 is doing some serious home work in the constituency since then. All surveys point at an edge to Lokesh in 2024
