hussain sagar pollution increased than musi riverAfter the recent Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, the pollution levels in Hussainsagar have now crossed those in Musi, which is the worst polluted lake in both the Telugu States until now. This is revealed by an interim report filed by the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB)

Musi is in fact considered as one of the most polluted rivers in the country after the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) level in it was found to be 34mg/l earlier this year. But according to the latest report, Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) in Hussainsagar near Lumbini Park has shot up alarmingly. While the ideal BOD is to be regulated at 3 milligrams/litre (mg/l), the BOD value in this area has increased from 34mg/l to 57 mg/l.

Similarly, around Necklace Road, the values have risen from 16 mg/l to 24 mg/l. Idols made of plaster of paris and other puja material like leaves and flowers are immersed in Hussainsagar. These things rotting in water gets worse and increase the BOD levels. In the long run, only organisms that can live in low dissolved oxygen levels can live in the lake.
