Bowing to India’s diplomatic pressure, Pakistan Government had decided to hand him over to India. He was handed over to Indian authorities at Attari – Wagah Border as a huge number of people assembled there to receive their hero.

According to the procedure, medical examinations will be performed on Abhinandan and he will be debriefed about what happened in Pakistan. He will be shifted to Delhi immediately after the Medical Tests. His family reached the Wagah Border and after all the procedures, he will be handed over to them.

Abhinandan Varthaman downed a Pakistani F-16 plane before his MiG-21 Bison was hit during a dogfight. Due to international pressures, Pakistan agreed to honor Geneva Convention Rules and released him just two days after his capture. During his captivity, Pakistan released a video in which he gave a statement that he was treated honorably. We will have to see if he sticks to the statement now.
