Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar has threatened MSOs of Telangana with cancellation of licenses if they do not restore the telecast of TV9 and ABN Andhra Jyothy channels in the state. The Minister has taken this issue very seriously and also made it clear that government will amend the TRAI rules and regulations to see the MSOs fall line with government. He said that his government will take legal advice before taking action on the MSOs.

Earlier last week, Javadekar has written a letter to Telangana Chief Minister over the issue to immediately lift ban on the telecast of both these channels. But Telangana government chose to remain silent over the issue and it is said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is very serious about the issue and urged Javadekar to take necessary step on war footing.

It is known that the channels were banned by the MSOs of the region after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandra Sekhar Rao slammed them in Assembly for airing derogatory news on the region. Andhra Jyothy had taken the issue to the concerned officials, central government and the governor but the ban is still in place. Journalists allege that it is KCR’s government behind MSOs in this ban issue.
