Despite being the biggest city in Andhra Pradesh with over 3,500 police personnel at 25 police stations in Vizag, the city police do not even have a website. The City Police had a website for the traffic wing which is left with out any updates while the Cyber Crime department is yet to open a page on any social networking site.
Many cities in AP are effectively using their official websites and Facebook pages to help citizen acquaint with the latest trends of crimes and also seek feedback from the public for effective policing. But Vishakapatnam Police are least bothered in this issue. Ironically Vishakapatnam ranks second in the country in Cyber Crime after Bengaluru for two consecutive years.
Andhra government recently launched two online devices iClik (Instant-Complaint Login Internet Kiosk) and Abhayam (safety 4 sure), a mobile application as a pilot project in Vizag this year to encourage women to lodge grievances without visiting police stations. The City DCP C.M. Trivikram Varma says that efforts to launch official website of the Vizag city police are on.
