Why Andhra Pradesh is Not Vaccinating 18+ Any Sooner?Union Government has started registrations for the vaccination of the 18+ age group. However, no state in the country has been giving slots to them. The other day, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said the vaccination is unlikely to begin before September.

In Andhra Pradesh, if we consider the 45 years plus Age Group, only 30% have got their first shot. The percentage will fall around 8% if we consider fully vaccinated people. That means the priority group itself is not going to get fully vaccinated any sooner.

The only good part about the vaccination drive in Andhra Pradesh is that 85% of health workers and 78% of the frontline workers were vaccinated. It looks like Jagan’s statement about 18+ vaccination only in September may become true and it may not be a surprise if it gets later.

But sadly, the 18-44 group is the most active group and is likely to be the spreaders for the vaccine. The chain can be broken only if the majority of that age group is fully vaccinated.
