jaya-lalitha

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jaya Lalitha’s conviction will bring lot of changes in the Tamil Nadu Politics. The first immediate effect will be Jaya Lalitha’s stepping down as the Chief Minister and will even cease to be an MLA. She will have to dissolve her council of ministers and AIADMK will have to bring in some in her place to be the next Chief Minister. It is said that former Chief Secretary Sheela Balakrishnan is the front runner for the coveted post. Jaya Lalithaa’s loyalist Paneer Selvan who is currently the state finance minister will also have a chance.

Jaya Lalithaa has alleged that the case is a political vendetta by DMK. Jaya Lalithaa in all probability will appeal in a higher court but this conviction will bring in lot of damage for AIADMK ahead of the Assembly elections in 2016. She will not be even eligible to contest elections for 6 years. Back in Tamil Nadu, high alert was issued and security was beefed up for the houses of DMK leaders as AIADMK party workers are expected to come on roads agitated.
