When the Government Turns Defaulter Property TaxWhile the government will hound people and go on seizing properties if the Property Tax is not paid, the government itself is the major defaulter of Property Tax across the Telangana State. Buildings belonging to the Central and state governments owe Rs 83 crore in property tax dues to various municipal corporations and municipalities.

The actual payment amounts to 90 Crore this year, but only a paltry 6.23 Crore is paid until now. While the government targets 100% Tax Collection from private individuals, the property tax collection percentage from government buildings stands at a dismal 6.92 percent.

The laxity in clearing the Taxes is due to the fact that the officials are confident that the properties will not be seized. Meanwhile, some of the local bodies are not even in a position to pay the salaries, EPF, ESI to workers etc.
