What Happens After Andhra Pradesh Revoked General Consent for CBI -Chandrababu NaiduAndhra Pradesh Government has decided to revoke the General Consent for CBI the other day. There is a lot of discussion about this step and its repercussions even at the National Level. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee commended the move and is mooting to follow the same in their state as well. Now, what next for CBI in AP?

“Revoking of ‘General Consent’ for CBI by AP Govt does not mean CBI can’t probe/register any case against Central Govt official in AP, now CBI has to write to State Govt seeking permission on a ‘case to case’ basis and state Govt has to process the request in 48 hours,” sources in CBI told us.

Also if the court directs a CBI inquiry, the state government’s consent is not necessary and the CBI will automatically get the jurisdiction. Also, this is not the first time a state revoked General Consent for CBI. In 2001, the then Karnataka Government also revoked this access and later on restored it.
