Nizamuddin Markaz Event played a spoilsport in India’s efforts to counter Coronavirus Pandemic. The Attendees of the event and their contacts form around 30-40% of the total cases in India so far. The next week is going to be the key to know whether India will enter the ‘steady phase’ of the Pandemic.
Experts say that all the cases related to the Markaz will be unearthed in the next week and the Steady Phase is expected from 16th. If the Steady Phase sets in as planned, the Receding phase should start by May 9th. This is only based on the assumption that the virus is confined only to the Markaz attendees and their close contacts.
The Government also believes that it has successfully averted the Stage-3. A disease is considered to have reached ‘community transmission’, or stage 3 when authorities are unable to find the source of the infection for a large number of cases or many tests during a randomized surveillance yield positive results.
The Government had already started conducting random tests in the virus hotspots. More than 250 districts across the country were identified as potential hotspots. At the time of writing this article, as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of cases in India stands at 4,067.
