Vontimitta Kodandarama Swamy Temple Vying for UNESCO TagVontimitta Kodandarama Swamy Temple is Andhra Pradesh’s best bet to be the Unesco world heritage site for its unique architectural structure. The temple of 16th century fulfills at least five of the 10 criteria required for declaration as a Unesco heritage site.

UNESCO recently revised its guidelines which make only one of the 10 listed criteria is enough for a site to claim the world heritage status. But then the project needs about 100 acres of land but then there is no vacant land around the Temple site and the temple authorities are looking for the government assistance.

After the state division, Andhra Pradesh government is celebrating Sri Rama Navami at this temple. It was handed over to Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam for maintenance in 2015 but the temple did not see any serious efforts to develop the temple.
