vizag-airportNavy agreed to shut down Vishakapatnam airport to facilitate the construction of Bhogapuram Airport. An MOU has been signed between Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation Limited (APADCL) and the Navy.

Vizag Airport belongs to the Navy and could not be expanded due to Security issues. As a result, it could not meet the demand of the increasing population of Vizag.

APADCL had agreed to allot 170 acres in Bhogapuram to Navy and the remaining 138 acres will be used for the construction of the Airport.

Closure of Vizag Airport is important because people will naturally use the airport closer to the city and avoid Bhogapuram making it financially untenable.

Meanwhile, the court cases pertaining to the Bhogapuram lands are also nearing conclusion. So, the Bhoomi Pooja will be performed soon.

Interestingly, it was the previous Chandrababu Naidu’s government that prepared the DPR and done the land acquisition for the project.

YSRCP back then opposed the project and joined the people in agitation against the airport. After coming to power, the party has changed its stance.
