A high school student who will be graduating two years from now has been offered admission to more than 170 colleges and more than $9 million in scholarships. Dennis Maliq Barnes, a 16-year-old senior at International High School of New Orleans, has shared that he had no intention of setting records initially.
The student from Louisiana says that as he applied to more schools, the numbers went up, and with the financial aid, he says he turned more intrigued. When he learned he was close to the record, he simply went for it.
However, Barnes says he took pride in watching the acceptances and scholarships rolling in. He adds that it was not a surprise when he reached that number. His school authorities have now requested the Guinness Book of World Records to make his record official.
Barnes has a 4.98 GPA and will be graduating in two years, and he hasn’t decided where to go next. But he wants to do computer science and then follow it up with law. He will make a final decision in early May before graduation on May 24th.
He profusely thanks God and his family members for being a part of this memorable journey.
