The United States of America will soon unveil a new policy of asking visa applicants to share their personal details such as their social media profiles, email ids, etc. This will be another screening process for immigrants and foreign visitors who seek visa to enter the country.

The State department recently revealed that they need more information about the visa seekers “in order to more rigorously evaluate applicants for terrorism or other national security-related visa ineligibilities.” It is still a proposal and the state is waiting on public comment.

Trump’s administration has been paying closer attention to checking immigrants and foreigners for any suspicious activities and with their social media accounts at their hands, scrutiny would be easier. It has, however, been reassured that they will not seek social media passwords and will not violate any privacy controls on the applicants’ accounts.
