It is unfortunate that today Telugu News Channels have blurred the lines between news and entertainment. To score higher TRPs, the news channels have made a mockery out of serious issues, with no respect for journalism.
A few years ago, a TV9 reporter appeared in army fatigues inside the news studio to “celebrate” the Balakot air strikes. Another Telugu news channel anchor used two watermelons on his show to explain the alleged murder case of Vivekananda Reddy.
TV9 channel also had to face a lot of heat after a journalist jumped into a bathtub to “prove” that there was more to Sridevi’s sudden demise.
Now once again TV9 has turned a serious issue into a circus as they were reporting the tragic death of a 4-year-old boy who was killed by stray dogs in Hyderabad. The female anchor was reporting the incident from her studio which was filled with poor graphics of dogs barking at the audience’s faces. Such cheap and tasteless reporting of serious incidents takes away its graveness and turns them into a mockery.
The aim of news channels is now ‘to entertain’ and not spread awareness or information anymore. People on social media are heavily trolling and condemning TV9’s theatrics, but Telugu media still seems to believe in dramatizing events in a shameful manner just to grab eyeballs.
