The other day, ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti had announced that Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao will be its candidate for Paleru by-election. Tummala later announced that he is not going to resign as Minister and MLc before the contest and this is likely to draw unnecessary controversy.
There is no rule to resign for contesting but it will not be ethically right to do so because as an MLC and Minister, he can easily influence officials during the election process, that will be his advantage over other candidates. Also he will have the lifeline of continuing as Minister even in the case he loses Paleru by-election.
Previously Jeevan Reddy who is a minister in YSR Cabinet resigned and contested on KCR who is running for Karimnagar Lok Sabha by-election. However TRS defends its move saying that Congress appointed Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy as CM and he contested for Panyam by-election as the Chief Minister.
