Today marks the Twentieth Formation Day of Telangana Rashtra Samiti. The party has been formed with the sole objective of attaining the statehood for Telangana and has played a significant role in it. The party has come to power in Telangana twice after the formation.
Irrespective of the perception, it has fairly managed to transform itself to help the new state meet the challenges after formation. But then, in the second term, the party has started sensing the signs of anti-incumbency. It has got shocks in Dubbaka and GHMC elections and there are people writing political obituaries already.
But the fact remains TRS is still a popular party with the masses especially in the rural areas. BJP has managed to make a significant mark in the educated folks but that may not be enough to desettle TRS yet. On the other side, even if the defeat happens, TRS does not face any problems of existence.
TRS has the experience of fighting in the Opposition in much more adverse conditions. The fact that the party’s future leadership is strong and popular makes the party feel more secure in its future prospects. It’s just that you can not write it off yet and even if it loses.
