Train-Rams-Killing-People-Watching-Ravan-Dahan---AmritsarThis comes as a huge administration fault on the part of not only the Dasara Celebrations Committee but also the Railways for not taking proper precautionary messages that would have saved lives of nearly 50 people who died in a mishap when a train rammed into people who were watching Dasara celebrations, i.e., burning Ravan’s effigy.

This untoward incident happened in Jhoda Phatak, Amritsar of Punjab when a crowd gathered to watch the effigy burning that took place alongside the railway tracks. The crowd couldn’t hear the sound of the approaching train (DMU train 74943) due to the burning of the crackers at that time. People were found standing on the railway tracks when the train rammed into the people and killed nearly 50 people and there are many more who are injured.

Cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu’s wife Navjit Kaur was said to be at the celebrations as the chief guest for the event that was organised by Congress Party. The video that surfaced from the accident spot clearly shows the burning effigy and the fireworks when the train came unnoticed. The authorities immediately sprang into action to take the necessary relief measures.

The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh immediately expressed his pain over the loss of the lives. Punjab CM directed the authorities to take up the rescue measures on a war footing. Right now, rescuing the injured and relief measures are more important than the blaming game on each other.
