Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has proposed a new rule to the government which forbids Political parties and corporate companies owning electronic or print media companies. This rule was proposed to curb news channels being setup to promoted vested interests of an individual or a group. TRAI also proposed the government to setup a media regulatory under a retired Supreme Court. This will eliminate the concept of paid news and will always keep a check on the news quality.

In our state, Sakshi TV and Newspaper owned by YSR Congress President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will be coming under scanner if the Union government approves this new rule. Sakshi was started by late Chief Minister YS Raja Sekhar Reddy through his son Jagan. Since then Sakshi is acting as mouth piece for YSR then and Jagan after YSR’s death. The new rule also states that if a media group already have a owner who is a political leader, he should step down.
