Renowned radiologist, hospital administrator, and the first director of NIMS Dr. Kakarla Subba Rao passed away this morning. He has been admitted to KIMS hospital for a month due to age-related issues. Kakarla who was one of the World famous radiologists is a native of the Krishna district.
Invited by the then Chief Minister Late NT Rama Rao, Kakarla returned from the USA, took charge of NIMS as Director. It was he who transformed it into a super specialty Hospital. He also served as the Head of Radiology in Osmania Hospital before going to the USA.
Kakarla who worked in several reputed hospitals in the United States also authored numerous books and research papers on radiology. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 2000 by the Central Government for his services to medicine and humanity.
His passing away leaves a big void to the Telugu people and also the medical fraternity across the globe. We express our heartfelt condolences!
