Reports are emerging that BJP led NDA government is planning to make a Dalit as the next President of India. Union Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot’s name is being prominently heard. He is currently serving as the Cabinet minister in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
He is a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh and represented the Shajapur constituency of Madhya Pradesh in the 11th, 12th, 13th & 14th Lok Sabha (1996-2009). His name is likely to be proposed to NDA partners in a meeting on 10th.
BJP is trying to woo Dalits off late and this is the first major step in that direction. Also, Opposition parties can not oppose the candidature of a Dalit. On the other side, BJP Veteran Leader, LK Advani the other day announced that he is not in the race.
