Aasocham had come up with a survery about the investments on Irrigation Projects. Telangana is ranked top in the country as it makes 12% of the total investments on irrigation projects in the nation. Andhra Pradesh despite the Cash crunch, is only second in the list and it makes 11% of the total investments on irrigation projects in the country.
Aasocham had studied the investments made between 2004-05 t0 2014-15 to arrive at the conclusion. The entire country has invested about 5.5 Lakh Crores on the projects. The investments in Telangana were 6% in 2004-05 and it got doubled by 2014-15 which reflects Telangana government’s onus on irrigation project.
However Andhra Pradesh’s share in this remained at 11% from 2004-05 t0 2014-15. Even maintaining the share is commendable for the truncated state after being cash strapped due to bifurcation. The report also said 84% projects are in construction phase for years resulting in multiplication of their costs.
