The cricket fever is catching up in the USA. While the US already has a professional men’s cricket ODI and T20I team, in a historic development of sorts, the US has now formed an under-19 women’s T20I team.
“USA Cricket is honored to announce the 15-player squad that will represent the United States of America in the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup that gets underway in South Africa next month” the statement from USA Cricket read.
The interesting thing here is that the US under-19 team is heavily dominated by Telugu-origin girls with the captain, Geetika Kodali herself being a Telugu original individual.
Other Telugu-origin girls in the 15-member squad include Bhumika Bhadriraju, Laasya Mullapudi, Sai Tanmayu Eyyuni and reserve player Kasturi Vedantham.
“USA Women’s Under 19s will make history by becoming the first Women’s cricket team to represent the United States at a Cricket World Cup and the first of any kind since the Men’s Under 19s team in 2010” the media statement read.
