Two years ahead of the elections, reports are coming in that Telugu Desam Party had employed the services of a new political strategist, Sunil Kanugolu of Mindshare.
Sunil, a former colleague of Prashant Kishor before 2014 is already working for Congress in Karnataka.
Unlike Prashant Kishor, Sunil Kanugolu does not have any online presence and their modus operandi also differs considerably.
Prashant Kishor is known for overpowering his clients and also takes credit for their successes. But Sunil does not do either
“He analyzes the strength and weaknesses of a party and works on them to make it a significant force,” a source in the know told us.
Sunil is known for enhancing the image of the leaders. For instance, he designed a special campaign for current Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin before the 2016 assembly elections.
Even though DMK lost the election, it enhanced the image of Stalin and helped his political career big time. Such a campaign is being planned for Lokesh as well.
He also worked closely with Amit Shah until February 2018 and ran successful campaigns for BJP in the state elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Karnataka. His client, DMK (UPA) won 38 out of 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in TN.
He parted ways with DMK in the assembly elections when Stalin wanted him to work together with Prashant Kishor.
