Telangana's new districts creation put on holdTelangana government in September 2015 appointed a five-member committee headed by the chief secretary to make recommendations on formation of new districts in the state but now the process of creating new districts in Telangana has come to a halt due to a change in policy of the government.

The state government is anticipating the Center’s approval in increasing Assembly seats as envisaged in Section 26 of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. So the government asked the committee to put its report on hold. The report was to be submitted to the government by this month-end.

According to the reorganization act, the Assembly seats will increase from 119 to 153 in Telangana State. The Chief Minister is of the opinion that the new districts can be created scientifically only after the reorganisation of Assembly constituencies. The government is of the opinion to increase the existing number of districts to 14.
