Inmates of the Special Prison for Women, Chanchalguda were entrusted the task of stitching 5000 school uniforms for students of various social welfare schools in Telangana. A garment manufacturing unit was set up in the jail and 25 prisoners were trained in tailoring and designing.
The unit costed 10 Lakhs to the Telangana prisons department authorities. The prison authorities are going to pursue various other government departments to get orders for stitching.
There is also a bakery unit set up in the jail. The convicts work in shifts to make bakery products which are also sold to government organisations which first place orders, especially if any big functions are being organized to serve refreshments to their guests.
