Telangana State Stays Ahead in NRI DivorcesIt is unfortunate to say that Telangana turned out to be the second state to report highest NRI divorces in the country. The irony is that most of these divorces are not even valid according to Indian law. As per Telangana state Commission for women’s Chairperson, Non-Resident Indian grooms have been divorcing their wives in foreign though they were married in India.

As per law, a couple married in India should get divorced in India in accordance with the Hindu Marriage Act. the Chairperson of Telangana State Commission for Women, Dr. Tripurana Venkataratnam said that the ministry of women and child development has set the standard operating procedures for the victims to be able to reach out to the law to fight back the illegitimate divorces.

To discuss the severity of the issue and the action plan, National Commission for women has scheduled a consultation on 26th of this month for which Dr. Venkataratnam has been invited to attend.
