Telangana State Budget 1.45 Lakh Crore, Debts to Reach 1.40 Lakh CroreTelangana State Finance Minister Etela Rajender presented Budget for 2017-18 with an outlay of Rs 1.45 lakh crore which is 15 lakh crore more when compared to Rs 1.3 lakh crore in the 2016-17 Budget. The budget states that the impact of demonetization is higher on Telangana.

But then the youngest state of the country 19.61 percent revenue growth this fiscal, higher than most other States despite demonetisation, the government claims. As in the case of last year, the allocations for Water Resources are highest which amounts 23,675 Crore.

But then, the worrying factor is the growing debts of the state. The budget estimates the debts to reach 1,40,523 Crore by 2017-18. The debts already reached 1,14,813 Crore and the government is planning to go for 26,400 Crore loans this year.

Despite all that, Eetela managed to put up welfare oriented budget with many allocations to various welfare schemes. The major challenge is to ensure the revenues reach their targets. There is a major shortfall last year due to Demonetization. Telangana will hope that the economy recovers and revenues increase.
