Telangana - One Sop To Cost 7000 Crore to The State ExchequerTelangana Government’s Scheme of 24-hour power supply to the agricultural sector may push the power sector subsidy burden on the government to 7000 Crore in 2018-19. The burden is around 4700 Crore this year and will go up next year.

The 24-hour power supply to the agricultural sector scheme will bring an additional burden of 2500 Crore to the state chequer. The state government is not keen on passing on the burden to the people due to Assembly elections coming up in the next year.

The burden will be totally borne by the state government. But then, this scheme is very important for Telangana government for its poll prospects in 2019. Telangana Government is already indulging in massive power purchases to ensure no power cuts in the state.
