Telangana Jails Can Not Hang Yasin BhatkalYasin Bhatkal and other operatives of Indian Mujahideen were sentenced to death for Dilsukhnagar blasts the other day by a court in Hyderabad. But then, as per the status now, Telangana can not hang them in its prisons due to the absence of gallows needed to hand them.

In fact, there have been no death sentences carried out in Telangana since 1978. All the Central prisons in every state have gallows but are not the case of Telangana. In AP, Rajahmundry prison has a gallow. There is a proposal to set up gallows at the Warangal and Chanchalguda prisons but is still pending approval.

Since, there is a proposal to move Warangal and Chanchalguda prisons to different buildings from the current sites, the proposal for gallows is pending. If the jails are moved, there will be gallows in the premises. In such case and if all higher courts uphold the verdict, and if the President of India approves it, it is very likely that the five terrorists will be hanged in Telangana, the authorities say.
