Taj Mahal registers slump in Foreign touristsTaj Mahal, one of the Wonders of the World is registering a constant fall in the number of foreign tourists over the last few years. The government has undertaken various steps to ensure tourism-friendly environment in the country but that could not help much. The 17th century monument registered 7.43 Lakh foreign tourists in 2012.

The numbers went on decreasing from then. The number fell to 6.95 lakh in 2013 and slumped further to 6.48 lakh in 2014. Alarmingly, the government did not come up with any study to pinpoint the reason for the drop in foreign tourist footfalls to Taj Mahal, worrying the monument lovers.

Central government has undertaken various initiatives to ensure safety and security of tourists such as a toll-free multi-lingual tourist helpline and a code of conduct for safer tourism. But incidents of foreign tourists getting harmed in the country and the extensive coverage to such news, had an impact on foreign tourists coming to the country.
